What is the age limit for young persons coming in to the club?

There isn't one! Realistically children under 10 might get bored and certainly a crying baby would not add to the evenings entertainment, but as long as children are well behaved, do not run between the bars and do not try to purchase alcohol then they are welcome. Please note that usually a charge is made.

Why do you stamp my hand AND give me a ticket, surely a ticket alone is enough?

The ticket we give you confirms for us how many are in the room (the fire officer needs to know should he attend doing a spot check), stamping your hand means that we can get people in/out to the loo or to go for a smoke MUCH quicker as people are not kept waiting while you rummage through your pockets to find your ticket. If you do not want your hand stamping say so, but you may well delay yourself and others when you come back in to the music room should you go out for any reason.

What is the nearest tube/bus stop.

The nearest tube is Ruislip, the nearest but stop is in West End Road about 300 yards away, and is for the E7 bus towards Ealing. For full, comprehensive travel information go to how to find The Tropic Of Ruislip

Why do you start and finish late? It makes public transport somewhat difficult.

We do not get access to the room until 6.30, we then have to set up the PA (sometimes it comes early) and sort out the band, lights, furniture etc. We normally do doors for 8.30/8.45 giving the band 45 ish minutes to relax and get changed etc. before they come on at 9.30. We ALWAYS (should!) finish at midnight. Most tube trains will still be running from Ruislip if you get away smartly to the station, as will the buses. There are various options suggested on this page.

What time to the doors open and bands come on?

FRIDAYS Doors usually 8.30, main band on 9.30 to midnight, usually with a break. If we have a support the support band may well be on as early as 8.45.

SUNDAYS Doors usually 7.30, main band on 8.30 to 10.30, sometimes with a break.

Is there a bar/real ale/food etc?

Full bar, only one real ale. Some basic food, chips, burger with chips, curry with chips, chips with chips etc. (Food is not ALWAYS available)

What are the toilets like (!)

Actually - reasonable!!! And nobody in there offering to squirt soap in to your palm for 50p

How good is access for the disabled?

Not bad - see seating policy

Why when I come in do I see tables reserved? Can I reserve one?

See seating policy

If I want a seat but do not want to sit to the side can I move the tables on to the dance floor?

For every gig the arrangements with tables/seating is given careful consideration. The best option is to ask at the time, but as a general rule of thumb if we are very busy we normally do it as a stand up only on the dance floor.

If I do not reserve a ticket will I still get in?

Generally yes, although of course it will normally cost you a little more. We would post of the web site home page just before the gig starts if we think it will sell out.

I have epilepsy, are strobe effects used?

Yes

The venue is known as Ruislip Social Club, yet Ruislip Manor USED to play there and now it is the home ground of Wealdstone which is part of Harrow - what is the story?

Although in Ruislip technically it was the home of Ruislip Manor Football Club, (where it could be said that the far end of the land is technically in Ruislip Manor). Wealdstone played IN Wealdstone but many years ago their ground was sold to Tesco and a proposed new ground was never built. They ground shared with various clubs but when Ruislip Manor FC could no longer keep up the rent for the ground they moved somewhere cheaper well outside Ruislip and Wealdstone came in, where Wealdstone have a greater fan base.

What is a good number to call for a taxi?

Personal Cars 01895 624444, they charge about £2 per mile or 020 8845 0055 / 020 8842 2299, Ruislip Cars, who charge about the same. The latter firm might be better on busy nights as we keep them busy!!

Can my band play at the venue?

Bands wishing to play are invited to contact us, but before we move anything forward we would want to hear a demo, or be directed to a "myspace" type site. Please note that we very rarely book bands that play just "covers" and then, with one or two notable exceptions, only really as a support band.

Why do you sometimes allow only those that have pre-booked in first?

On busy nights we allow pre-books in ahead of walk-up customers. The venue has a room limit somewhere over 200, imagine if we had pre-booking for 230 and at the front of the queue were a group of say 20 who had not booked and we let them all in first. This would mean that by the time we arrived at the back of the queue we would be turning away people who had booked when we had allowed in people who had not. Therefore where the pre-book is OVER 200 we only allow pre-books in first.

How do I cancel/amend my booking?

This is an easy one. E-mails are all read by a person so to make any changes to your booking at all, go to this page (Bookings are held under customer SURNAME)
